What just happened?

Something changed yesterday and it wasn’t to do with the self-administration of an abortion at home, that was already permitted. What changed was the removal of the clinic visit and many of the related steps in the previously established care pathway, at least to the extent of how these are provided. From yesterday, March 30th, 2020, women no longer need to make that clinic visit, they can access an abortion at home, legally, by remote contact with a registered medical practitioner, who can also provide that consultation from their home. This is a very significant change, worthy of ongoing review and evaluation.

Here’s a link to the letter from Mark Davies, Director of Population Health at the Department of Health and Social Care.
